1st Reading- The Short Bus
So far as I read the book it is about a man that came from a difficult background. He was in school and decided to drop out the 6th grade because of all the obstacles he was facing. He was labeled dyslexic and when he told his mom a story and she typed it up for a paper of his. He was called into the principles office and was told that he plagiarized. The principle told him and his mother that people like him weren't able to have thoughts like that. So every since that day forward his mother took him out and they never looked back. They said the school system is broken. So now he has a short school bus to symbolize his life growing up in the school district and now plans on traveling around the world to help kids similar to himself. He also has a girlfriend in which he proposed to while he was on the road. So she is traveling along with him. Their first stop was a stop to young kid named Brent. Which reminded him of himself, just more confident. He and Brent went to play paintball together since that was one of Brent's favorite things to do. It got his mind off things.
My favorite part of the book is when the bus broke down while they were on the highway just as they began their journey to travel the world. Then came along another man with the same type of bus. He explained that he lived out his bus and introduced himself as Bob Henry which gave Johnny the idea to name his bus after him. He felt as though they had a lot in common and after all he did help fix his short bus and he figured it needed a name so why not that one.
